Vice-Chancellor convened Academic Council meeting on 17
Kumaon University has scrapped the semester system everywhere except campus and some PG colleges from this year. Now Sridev Suman University has to take a decision on this issue.
There was a large-scale movement against the semester system in the state this year. After this, the government had announced to end the semester system in UG courses. After this announcement, last month, the government sent a letter to the Kumaon University and Sridev Suman University to abolish the semester system.
Based on this letter, Kumaon University announced a meeting in November itself to end the semester system. The semester system will be applicable only on the university campus and some PG colleges. Elsewhere, annual examinations will take place in March 2020.
On the other hand, Sridev Suman University of Uttarakhand is yet to take a decision on this issue. Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. PP Dhyani says that he has called a meeting of the Academic Council on 17 December after taking charge.
The semester system will be decided at the meeting. Only then will the status of the semester system in Sridev Suman University be cleared. Students studying in government and private colleges of Garhwal division are confused.
Actually, these colleges are affiliated to Sridev Suman University. The university has released the examination schedule for the rest of the semester but has not yet clarified the situation for the students of the first semester. The students demand that the university take a decision on this as soon as possible.
We have received a letter from the government regarding abolishing the semester system. For this, a meeting of the Academic Council has been called on 17 December. Whatever decision will be made in this, the government will be made aware of it.
