State Property Department gave notice to the former Chief Ministers for payment of arrears

Except for former Chief Minister BC Khanduri, no former Chief Minister has paid electricity and water bills. The state property department had given notice to the family of former chief ministers Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Vijay Bahuguna, and ND Tiwari a month ago for non-payment of dues.

The Uttarakhand government brought an ordinance for other facilities including free accommodation for former chief ministers on 31 March 2019. The ordinance did not provide relief in payment of electricity and water bills. After the ordinance came, he has been challenged in the High Court.

The department was informed to the court that notices to the former Chief Ministers have been served for the arrears of electricity-water bill. After this, it was believed that the former Chief Minister would pay the dues.

Koshiyari owes Rs 11 lakh, Vijay Bahuguna 3.5 lakh and Nishank Rs 4 lakh as the electricity-water bill. Of the former chief ministers, only Major General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri (Re) has already paid the outstanding electricity bill of Rs 1.5 lakh. Whereas none of the Chief Ministers with notice had submitted the payment of dues to the department even after the stipulated period.
