Uttarakhand is the safest state for senior citizens. The Crime in India, the Year 2018 figures of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) are confirming this. At the same time, Uttarakhand also ranks first in the northern states in terms of robbery, theft, and recovery of property in cash.

While the state has been ranked third in the country by recovering 63.2 percent. Professional policing has increased seizures over the years. On the basis of the per lakh population, Uttarakhand has also topped the crime rate in the northern states.

Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police Law and Order, shared the achievement of Uttarakhand with the media on Friday, citing crime statistics of Crime in India 2018 published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

He said that Uttarakhand stood at sixth position in the country with 133.3 incidents per lakh of total cognizable offenses. The state ranks first in the northern states on a per million population basis. While in the medium and large states, Uttarakhand is second after Jharkhand.

According to the DG, Uttarakhand stood third in the country in robbery, and recovery of stolen property (2018). In Uttarakhand, 63.2 percent of the property was recovered. Telangana stood first with 70.6 percent seizures and Tamil Nadu second with 67 seizures.

Uttarakhand has got the first position in property recovery in the northern states. While the neighboring state Himachal has finished second, Jammu and Kashmir third, Punjab fourth, Uttar Pradesh fifth and Haryana sixth. Earlier in Uttarakhand, 54 percent of the property was recovered in 2016 and 52.7 percent in 2017. In 2018, the police managed to recover 11 crores looted and stolen property.

Director-General of Police said that the recovery of the property has increased due to professional policing. Efforts will continue to increase seizures in the future. He said that crimes related to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have decreased in the state as compared to previous years. The NCRB data also showed that Uttarakhand is the safest state for senior citizens in the northern states.
