Uttarakhand: Assembly will have a special session to increase SC-ST reservation

A special session will be convened in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. In which the proposal to extend the SC-ST reservation for the next 10 years will be passed and sent to the Central Government. The session can be held before January 10. Secretary Vidhan Sabha Jagdish Chand confirmed the convening of the special session. He informed that a letter has been received from the Rajya Sabha to the Legislative Assembly in this regard.

Article 334 of the Constitution provides for reservation for SC and ST class for 10 years. Every 10 years since the completion, it has been extended for the next 10 years by amending the constitution. The bill was last passed in 2009.

The provision of reservation ends on 25 January 2020. With the passage of the amendment bill in Parliament, resolutions are also passed by the state legislatures. In this case, the amendment bill has been passed unanimously within the Parliament.

Now resolutions have to be passed from the Legislative Assembly. A special session will be convened in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly to pass this resolution. According to the Secretary Legislative Assembly, the session may be held before January 10.
