On Thursday, a team from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) had a meeting with Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh and other officials of the state. Singh, during the meeting, sought cooperation from UNDP pertaining to technical support and skilled human resources for the schemes implemented in the state in the fields of sustainable development partnership, waste management, solar and wind power, micro-hydel project, livelihood, health, and drinking water. Singh said that there is a need for technical assistance from UNDP to increase the sources of income available. He also sought the utilization of UNDP’s experience in the state regarding the work it does on climate change in different countries.
Speaking at the meeting, UNDP consultant Jacob J Simonsen talked about providing Uttarakhand, the necessary technical support in various fields like climate change, disaster management, tourism, aromatic plants, small-scale industries, self-help groups, branding of products, livelihood security, and other aspects. The technical assistance of UNDP was sought in various fields like in the field of climate change, coordination with the Forest Department by Additional country director of UNDP, Rakesh Kumar; welfare schemes implemented in the state for women empowerment and child development by Additional chief secretary Radha Raturi; and Power secretary Radhika Jha sought technical assistance in small hydropower projects, solar and wind power projects.
