Earthquake tremors were felt twice this afternoon in Uttarkashi town of Uttarakhand
Earthquake shocks were felt at around 12 o’clock after which the Department of Disaster Management was activated. The intensity of the earthquake measured 3.5 Richter scale. The center of both the shocks was Dunda, 15 kilometres from the district headquarters. Seismic tremors were felt in other areas, including Uttarkashi, Bhatwadi, Joshiyara, Janasu, Dunda, Chinasilhud. The intimidated people also informed relatives and acquaintances and of the earthquake shocks, they felt.
In the District Emergency Operations Center, the District Collector Dr Ashish Chauhan got information from the tehsil through the wireless telephone. So far there is no information about the loss of any kind of life in the district. The District Magistrate has instructed officials of the IRS to stay alert. Besides, instructions have been given to activate ambulance and other facilities in the district hospital.
Earthquake shocks were felt even two months ago
Earlier on January 5, earthquake tremors were felt in the regions of India-Nepal border. With Dharchula in Uttarakhand, earthquake shocks were felt at night in neighbouring Nepal’s Betdi. At 9.46 pm in Dharchula and earthquake tremors were felt at Beti and Darchula at 10 pm (according to the times of Nepal). According to the earthquake measurement centre, Surkhet, the intensity of the earthquake was four on the Richter scale. The focal point of the earthquake was in Bindu Darchula Sadarmukam, 29 km in South-west India.
In the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, on 4th December 2018 morning people also felt earthquake tremors. The centre of this earthquake was recorded at Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. Although IMD did not confirm earthquake in Uttarkashi. But people felt earthquake shocks. Earthquake tremors were felt at around 6.23 in the morning in the Barakot area. Officials of the IMD said that the magnitude of earthquake tremor was measured to 3 meters on the Richter scale.
