In the three-tier panchayat elections in Uttarakhand, the resolution was passed unanimously in the House for holding direct elections for the post of District Panchayat and Kshetra Panchayat President. After the lunch break on the first day of the assembly session, Panchayati Raj Minister Arvind Pandey presented the resolution to amend the Constitution in the House.

The resolution was passed unanimously with the support of the side and the opposition. The resolution passed from the House will be sent to the Central Government. The Minister of Panchayati Raj introduced a resolution in the House to amend subdivision (b) of clause (5) of Article 243 (c) of the Constitution to directly elect the post of District Panchayat and Kshetra Panchayat President.

Members of the party and opposition present in the House passed this resolution with consensus. At present in the three-tier panchayat elections in the state, the election of the President of the District Panchayat and Kshetra Panchayat is done indirectly.

In which the voters do not have the right to choose the chairperson of the ZIP and Area. Directly elected Zilla Panchayat and Kshetra Panchayat members elect the chairman. There are 13 Zilla Panchayats and 95 Kshetra Panchayats in the state.

A resolution of unanimously passed resolution in the House will be sent to the Center. After amending the constitution of the Central Government, the election for the post of District and Area Panchayat President will be held in the state directly. In which voters will be able to directly elect the Speaker.
