Uttarakhand has been ranked third in the northern region for the Swachh Survekshan 2019 under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in villages. Union Fertilizers and Chemicals Minister DV Sadanand Gowda and Union Minister of State for Water Power Ratan Lal Kataria honored the award to Uttarakhand Swajal Director Uday Raj Singh and the team of officials led by him during an event in New Delhi on World Toilet Day on Wednesday.

The team to receive the honor includes Swajal’s environmental expert Dr. Ramesh Badola and monitoring and evaluation expert Alok Semwal. Director of Swajal, Udayraj Singh said that to promote community participation and public awareness on a large scale under the Swachh Bharat Mission and to maintain the level of cleanliness in the Swachh Gram Panchayats, the Central Government has been in the country from August 1 to September 30 this year.

The survey was conducted by an independent central government agency. The agency had set standards for observing citizen response, service level progress, public spaces sanitation, based on which it ranked Uttarakhand third in the northern region after conducting a comparative analysis of data. The agency visited and assessed 306 Gram panchayats in the state. The survey was based on citizen feedback available on the mobile app. For the selection of the award, the entire country was divided into six zones and three union territories.
