Yesterday, President Ramnath Kovind arrived at Jollygrant Airport in an Air Force aircraft at 9.15 am to attend the convocation ceremony of IIT Roorkee. Here he stopped a bit and left for Roorkee. He was received by all people including Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Governor Baby Rani Maurya here at Jolly Grant Airport. During this time adequate security arrangements were made at the airport.
The President reached Roorkee at 10 am. From here he reached the convocation of IIT at 10:30. Here he attended the convocation ceremony of IIT Roorkee. Addressing the initiation ceremony, President Ramnath Kovind said that IITs are known for their quality. India has touched new heights in the field of science. Giving the example of Chandrayaan-2, he said that our scientists have shown that we are no less than anyone.
Said that there is fewer number of girl students in all the institutions of science and technology. He expressed concern over this. Said that taxpayers from all over the country have a big responsibility in facilitating institutions like IITs. He called upon the students to fulfill their responsibilities after graduating from here. He asked the Director of IIT to seek alumni support for the benefit of the institute and the country. The President also praised the MoU signed between IIT Roorkee and ISRO a few days ago. President Ramnath Kovind said that he had gone to ISRO when Chandrayaan-2 was launched. During that time there were two women scientists present. One of them had a six-month-old child, whom she had been living with in ISRO for two months, except with her family members. The President saluted his passion for service to the country. Said that such women of the country deserve respect.
2029 students were awarded degrees
During this period 2029 students were conferred degrees. These include 1018 UG, 702 PG, and 309 Ph.D. degrees. For the first time in the ceremony, three students who have done a Ph.D. for outstanding research work in the field of Engineering and Science were awarded the Doctoral Excellence Award. About one and a half hours before the President’s arrival, entry was stopped at all the gates of IIT.
President Ram Nath Kovind has a minute-by-minute schedule. After the program, he will leave for Haridwar at 2.20 pm from IIT. His aircraft will be launched on the BHEL helipad. The President’s convoy will reach Harihar Ashram at Kankhal via Bhagat Singh Chowk, Premnagar bridge from here.
Here the President is scheduled to meet with Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Awadheshanand of Juna Arena. During this time, he will also offer prayers at Pardeshwar Mahadev Temple at Kovind Ashram. After about one and a half hours, he will leave for Jollygrant Airport from BHEL Helipad at 4 pm. On Thursday, the IIT and the police-administration continued to exercise throughout the day in view of the security arrangements.
