The ambit of the centrally funded ambitious Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway project will expand. After declaring Garsain as the summer capital, the state government will soon talk to the central government in view of connecting the area from Garsain to Dwarahat with the rail network. With the efforts of this, the journey will be easier for the non-military, whereas the development of the region will get wings.
The work of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project costing 16216 crores is progressing fast these days. Under the project, the construction work of 16 tunnels is divided into 10 packages and work is in progress on six tunnels. The construction of the first block section between Virbhadra and Rishikesh has started. Apart from this, other works including ROB are also going on.
Once the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project takes shape, the journey from Rishikesh to Karnprayag will be scheduled in about two-and-three hours. With this, not only will the Chardham Yatris get comfort, but the local people will also get better connectivity. Now that the government has announced to make Garsain as the summer capital, it is being seriously considered to connect Garsain with the rail route under this project.
Presently, the nearest railway station of Garsain is Ramnagar at a distance of 150 km. After the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project takes shape, the nearest rail station of Garsain will be Karnprayag, 50 km away. The state government wants that the area up to Garsain (Chamoli) as well as its nearest Dwarahat (Almora) should be connected by rail connectivity.
The government is considering its possibilities at various levels. For this, the demand to extend the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project to Dwarahat will be placed before the central government. While the efforts of these will make the journey to Garsain easy, the path of development of the entire region will also be paved.
Chief Minister will talk to the central government
According to Uttarakhand government spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik, talks have been held with the Chief Minister regarding the extension of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway project to Dwarahat. Now soon the Chief Minister will talk to the Central Government about this.
