Prof. Annapurna Nautiyal, working as acting Chancellor for the last year and a half has been appointed as the permanent chancellor of Garhwal University. In December 2017, the Central Government, the then Vice-Chancellor of Garhwal University, Prof. JL Kaul was removed from the post.
Subsequently, as per the instructions of MHRD, Senior Professor AB Bhatt of the University was entrusted with the responsibility of acting Vice-Chancellor of the University. On 31 March 2018, after Bhatt retired, senior-most professor, Prof. Annapurna Nautiyal took over as vice-chancellor.
Despite the commencement of the second term of the BJP government, a permanent chancellor was not appointed in the university. For a long time, the Chancellors of the Vice-Chancellor Search Committee were lying in cold storage. However, after the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank became the Minister of Human Resource Development, the hope of getting a permanent Vice-Chancellor was intensified.
After the notification of MHRD on Thursday, it became clear that Prof. Nautiyal is becoming the permanent chancellor. Pro. Nautiyal has previously held the Dean of School of Social Science and Humanities, Department of Political Science Department and Coordinator of Women’s Cell at Garhwal University. Her articles have been published in many national and international journals.
