President Ramnath Kovind honoured Dr Madhuri Barathwal with Nari Shakti (Woman Power) Award


On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Dr. Madhuri Barthwal, the first female music director of AIR, was honored with the Nari Shakti (Woman Power) Award by President Ramnath Kovind. He was given this award in the program organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

More than 40 women who have done outstanding work in various fields from across the country, the President honoured them with the Nari Shakti (Woman Power) Award on Friday. This award was given to Dr Madhuri Barthwal, who was considered a research institution of folk songs from Uttarakhand. Dr Madhuri Barthwal has been engaged in fostering folk music since the age of two and she has been engaged in the preservation and promotion of folk songs since the last 5 decades. In the last 50 years, she identified the true artists from different villages of Uttarakhand. Hundreds of people have trained in folk music.

Also challenging the monopoly of men in traditional musical instruments. Dr Madhuri Barthwal, the first female music composer of AIR, was born on March 19, 1953. Her passion for folk music was such that she often sang in the forests of the village on holidays. Singer and sitar player, father Chandramani Uniyal gave his daughter Madhuri music lessons from the Prayag Music Society.
