PIL for 4809 acres of land

Uttarakhand High Court

The Uttarakhand High Court has sought replies from the Revenue secretary, Kumaon commissioner and Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate, in a case of alleged speculation of 4809 acres of Government land in Bazpur Tehsil area of Udham Singh Nagar. The replies should reach within four weeks.

Bazpur based farmer Sher Singh had filed a PIL in the High Court stating that 4,809 acres of land at Chakkarpur village had been given by the Government to Lala Khushiram on a 90-year lease in 1920.  The said land was sub-leased soon after the death of Khushiram in 1960 based on the power of attorney. The division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Alok Singh has also asked about the remaining land still left on which constructions have not been made.

The petitioner states that the Patwaris colluded with the elements of the land mafia facilitating plotting on this land to take away the government land. The government land was also found stolen in a probe ordered by the District Magistrate. There are still no actions taken for the irresponsibilities.
