The picture of those who drink alcohol and drive will be captured in the alkometer. The traffic police have procured 219 algometer with five-megapixel cameras. The traffic police have allocated this alkometer to 13 districts.
DIG traffic Kewal Khurana has instructed the CPU and traffic police to speed up the action against those who drink and drive. Deputy Director General of Police Kewal Khurana said that driving drinking alcohol is the main reason for road accidents.
To reduce the number of accidents and to catch the drivers running vehicle-consuming liquor, the high quality of 219 alkometers have been procured by the traffic directorate.
The new alkometer has a 5-megapixel camera. During the checking, the picture of the driver who drinks alcohol will be captured. Driving licenses of drivers caught more than two times will be disqualified for driving in the future.
In these 40 alkometers have been given to Dehradun and 40 to Haridwar police. Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts have been allocated 30 each, Almora, Pauri, Tehri, Pithoragarh 10 each, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, Champawat 8 each and Rudraprayag with 7 alkameter. Traffic police had 262 alkometers before. After 219 new alkometer arrived, this number has been 481.
