On Tuesday evening, a leopard killed 90 goats tied to a villager’s cowshed in the remote village assembly Jalal village of Kaladhungi range of Ramnagar forest division. Forest department officials reached the spot and recovered the bodies of 45 goats from the cowshed. While 18 goats were found lying injured, 25 goats were missing.
According to the information, on Tuesday evening, Lakshman Singh fed grasses to his 90 goats from the forest and tied them in the cowshed, and went to his house. According to the villagers, his cowshed is just 50 meters from his house. When he woke up in the morning, he went to the cowshed and saw the goats. The bodies of all the goats were lying there. He then informed other villagers about the incident.
Officers went to the spot and take stock of the situation
Also, on receiving the information, the forest department officials visited the spot and took stock of the situation. According to forest officer Amit Gwasakoti, the leopard may have made goats his morsel. He informed that the forest department is investigating the incident only after that the victim will be given appropriate compensation.
According to former district panchayat member Ganesh Singh Mehra, most of the villagers in the village live their livelihoods by rearing cattle and goats, but leopards have sustained losses for several days. They have demanded increased patrolling.
