In the year 2017, Doon saw a pleasant dream of Metro Rail. So many dreams of a bright future for the city were around that the government instantly set up Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation. At the same time, it has been declared as a metropolitan area from Dehradun to Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Munikireti. After nearly two years of tiresome efforts, the DPR of the project was created and it was decided that in the first phase, construction of the corridor of from ISBT to Kandoli and from FRI to Raipur in Doon would be constructed. After all the resources were added and after spending more than five crore rupees, the journey of the Metro has almost come to an end.
Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh refused to consider the Light Rail Transit System (LRTS) metro rail project being considered unsuitable for Doon. He is in favor of running a ropeway (cable car) instead of metro in Doon. However, nothing has been done for the ropeway. The reason for this is that two meetings of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the metro rail project have recently been held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, in both the meetings metro no even once they mentioned about the metro. Because when there was no coordination between the Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation and the Chief Secretary regarding the metro, it was decided that it will be decided in the meeting with the Chief Minister itself. Along with this, new discussions have now begun with experts in the metro versus cable car.
