Haridwar and Rishikesh shrines were earlier in the municipality area, but have now become municipal corporations. With the formation of Municipal Corporation, their scope has increased. The notification states that no liquor shops will be opened in the Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Purnagiri, Reetha Sahib, Hemkund Sahib, and Nanakmatta pilgrimage sites.
