In Kumaon, there has been an increase in the incidence of wildlife penetrating and attacking people. Recently, a woman and a three-year-old child were taken prey by the leopard in Pithoragarh district. Along with this, dozens of people were also attacked. On Thursday, the leopard attacked the sleeping woman at home in Tok Malgaon of Jangliagaon of Vikas block, Bhimtal. The rural woman was brought to CHC Bhimtal in critical condition. Villagers erupted when the AT rabies vaccine was not available here. The woman was later admitted to BD Pandey Hospital.
The case is of 4:30 am on Thursday. Jivanti Devi, 70, wife of Himmat Singh, slept inside the house. Suddenly the leopard entered through the door and attacked Jivanti Devi. Hearing her cry, the awake family members made a noise when the leopard ran through the window. The elderly woman, who was covered with blood, was taken to the rural CHC in a hurry. Villagers erupted when the AT rabies vaccine was not found there. Due to no immediate arrangements, Jivanti Devi was taken to BD Pandey Hospital, Nainital where she is undergoing treatment. Area social worker Prem Singh Kalyal and Nirvatman village head Radha Kalyal informed the forest department about the case. Also, they told the Health Department officials about not getting the vaccine in CHC.
