Journalists to be provided improved services directs HC

The High Court of Uttarakhand directs the State and Union governments to improve the conditions of service of the journalists as per the Majithia Wage Board recommendations notified by the Central Government on November 11, 2011.

On the basis of consumer price index, the State has been directed to consider increasing the pension of elderly journalists/reporters/correspondence. These suggestions are necessary to provide security and fearlessness in the professional pursuits.

The wages paid to the journalists are inadequate, despite the recommendations made by various committees from time to time. They are the voice of the society yet paid less. They discharge important functions in the democracy but still poorly waged.
