Green cards will now be made online for Chardham Yatra

Chardham Yatra

The transport department is now going to make this arrangement online, in view of the difficulties faced in getting a green card during Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand. With this, vehicle owners will get a green card in one click on applying online and uploading their photos and necessary documents.

However, this facility will remain for vehicles with 10 passenger capacity including the driver. Vehicles with higher passenger capacity will have to come to the office for fitness. To make the green card system online, the Department of Transport has entrusted the task of developing software to the National Informatics Center (NIC).

During the Chardham Yatra in the state, the Transport Department issues a green card for commercial vehicles operating on the travel route. 15 to 20 thousand green cards are issued every year. The green card means that all the documents of the vehicle concerned are complete, the fitness of the vehicle has also been checked and it is perfectly fit to run on mountainous routes.

Its purpose is to prevent illegal operations along with vehicle accidents. These cards are made at various RTO and ARTO offices during the journey. It takes long queues of vehicles to make a green card during the travel season.

Apart from this, there are many sharp clashes between vehicle owners for making green cards. Vehicles coming from outside the state have to face a lot of problems. In view of this, the Transport Department has decided to issue an online green card for the Chardham Yatra of the year 2020.

The department has assumed that the vehicle with a 10-seater capacity, including the driver, is short-lived. Its fitness is also checked while issuing the permit. In such a situation, there is no need to repeatedly check its fitness. They can be given green cards without inspection.

The process of vehicles with more than 10 seats of passenger capacity will also be online, but inspection of them has been made mandatory. Such vehicle owners will be able to submit their required documents online as well as booking for the office and time of their choice for inspection. They will also be issued a green card after conducting the test on the given date.

Deputy Transport Commissioner SK Singh says that preparations are being made to make the green card online in view of the difficulties encountered during the journey. For this, NIC has been asked to prepare software.
