The proposal will be placed before the cabinet
Only after this, MDDA will be able to work on riverfront development
The government is now preparing to change the use of river category land to make the Rispana and Bindal rivers beautiful. After the land-use change, MDDA will be able to outline planned development in areas of encroachments along these rivers.
The state government is currently working on a plan to revive the Bindal and Rispana river and beautify the river banks under the River Front Development. To revive the rivers, it has also been planned to plant more and more trees in the river’s water storage area.
Under this, 2.50 lakh saplings have been planted, but the government is facing a lot of problems in riverfront development. The trouble is that there is an encroachment on the banks of both rivers and removal of this encroachment will pose a big challenge of displacement to the government. The irrigation department had also built a wall earlier in the river area, but there has been encroachment in the river area also inside this wall. In such a situation, MDDA was entrusted with the task of making the region beautiful and developing a green belt.
According to sources in the government, MDDA is unable to work on the development plan as it is a river land. In such a situation, the revenue department has now prepared a proposal to change the category of river land. This category change will also happen only in the area where encroachment already exists. Any kind of construction is prohibited in river-class land. That is why this proposal has been prepared. According to the government, both these rivers have now become seasonal rivers. In such a situation, MDDA has also been asked to work on a plan to channelize the rivers (which will control the flow). In view of the code of conduct for panchayat elections, the State Department has not taken forward this proposal. The proposal has been prepared and will be placed in the cabinet meeting to be held now.
