About 60 thousand industries in Uttarakhand are under lockdown due to the coronavirus crisis. Since the formation of the state, the pace of industrial development has increased in the state. There are 327 large industries and more than 63 thousand micro small and medium industries (MSMEs) in the state from the year 2000 to December 2019. 13393 crore has been invested in MSSME industries. This gave employment to more than three lakh people. Whereas investment of 37894 crores and employment of 1.15 lakh people was provided in large industries.

The Central and State Governments have allowed such industries to produce to keep the supply of essential commodities in the lockdown period. Those make medical equipment, foodstuffs.

The District Magistrates have been empowered to allow production to industries. So far, about nine hundred industries have been allowed to produce in the state. In all other small and big industries, production is completely closed.

It is necessary for industries to obtain permission to keep production running. For this, the online application facility is available on the portal of the department. According to the central and state government’s guidelines, only industries producing essential commodities are being allowed to continue production. Nine hundred industries are running in the state.

There are 95 percent MSME industries in the state and these industries have the biggest role in providing employment. Small industries are completely closed due to the lockdown. The government should cooperate in such a way that MSME industries can stand and employ others. It will take industries at least one year to recover from this crisis.
