Cambridge Analytica: Facebook had complete information about data theft

In 2018, after Facebook data leak was exposed by London’s Political Consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica, there was a stir in the whole world. After this, many investigations were done and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also apologized for it.

During that time Facebook CEO had said that he was not aware of data theft by Cambridge Analytica, but now a new revelation has been made, according to which Facebook was fully aware of the users’ data theft by Cambridge analytics and the company kept suppressing it.

The British newspaper Observer report says that Facebook had complete knowledge about it and there was also a meeting between Facebook officials about Cambridge Analytica too. This meeting took place between Facebook’s board member Mark Andresen and Cambridge Analyst official Christopher Wiley.

It is said in the report that in this meeting it was discussed that Cambridge Analytica will use the data of Facebook users and the different ways they will use it. After this report, the American regulators have started investigating the matter again.

The point to note here is that the meetings between Facebook and Cambridge Analysts were held in 2016, and at the same time, Cambridge had campaigned for Presidential candidate Donald Trump in the US. This agency is accused of making an environment in Donald’s favour in the US election.

It is worth mentioning that about 8.7 million users of Facebook had been revealed to steal data by Cambridge Analytica. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), investigating Facebook’s data leak case, had said that Facebook violated Safeguard users’ privacy rules in 2011. Read more posts…
