A leopard killed a man who had gone to take forest grass in Satni village of the Jakholi block of Rudraprayag. Due to this incident, there is fear among the villagers and anger against the district administration and forest department. The villagers demanded the forest department to cage the animal.
Madan Singh Bisht (55), a resident of Satni Bhardar, had gone to take grass to Garpar Tok in the morning. Meanwhile, sitting in the forest ambush, a leopard attacked and killed Madan Singh. When he did not return home, the family searched him. When the family reached the forest, Madan Singh’s body was lying there and upon seeing the crowd coming, the leopard ran towards the forest.
On the information of the villagers, the district administration and the forest department reached the village. Former District Panchayat members Asha Dimri and Pancham Singh Rawat said that there is a terror of leopard in the area, which was already given to the Forest Department, but no action was taken by the Forest Department for security. He soon demanded a cage to catch the man-eater in the area. At the same time, he demanded compensation amount as financial help to the victim’s family.
