A cycle rally was taken out from Rishikesh to Haridwar, jointly organized by Sparsh Ganga and Namami Gange project. The students, armed forces personnel, members of the religious fraternity mainly participated in the rally on Wednesday.
The rally started from Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh downstream to Haridwar and pledged people to keep the Ganga clean. Sparsh Ganga campaign had been initiated on Ganga ghats by BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani and Tibetan leader Dalai Lama during the Kumbh Mela 2010 aside from the prominent members of the religious fraternity, said Swami Chidnand Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan. He said that Ganga is the lifeline as well as the precious heritage of the people. He also encouraged the students to keep the river clean and to adopt four Ts – time, talent, technology, and togetherness.
The former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was also present along with his daughter in the occasion urging the same as Swami to the students, while they also pledged to keep the river clean. A disabled Jawan who participated in it was offered Rudrakh sapling, at the end of the rally.
