High Court of Uttarakhand orders changes for and near river Ganga

The Uttarakhand High Court has directed certain developments to the state government like keeping the Ganga ghats clean, seal the sewer lines draining into it, and provide changing rooms for women on the ghats along with installing closed-circuit television cameras to keep an eye on the ghats. The HC also directed the state government to provide adequate fund for all these.

The division bench of Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Sharad Kumar Sharma also directed the irrigation department (Haridwar) to provide land to the municipal corporation for construction of an adequate number of toilets. The officials were also directed to install 72 CCTV cameras more where 16 of them are already installed in the Ghats of Ganga besides proper sanitation to be provided, construction of 300 toilets within a period of six months, 100 changing rooms for women and that no sewer should drain into the Ganga River.
