The demotion of 19 tainted engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) has been decided. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has recommended demoting the engineers found guilty in various cases of irregularities under zero tolerance on corruption.
Apart from this, there are 22 more tainted engineers, against whom the action is currently deferred due to the investigation not being completed. They will also be demoted as soon as the investigation is completed. The Public Works Department will issue the order for demotion on Tuesday.
A proposal was taken to act on 41 engineers who were involved in various works in the Public Works Department. In the proposal, all the engineers had to be down one post. According to highly placed sources, the Chief Minister has recommended demoting 19 engineers who have been proved defected in departmental investigations.
Big action on zero tolerance
The demotion process has been postponed due to the non-completion of investigation in several serious cases against 22 other engineers. The department is directed to take action soon after completing the investigation report.
The state government had ordered all departments to take action against the tainted and incompetent officers and employees under zero tolerance on corruption. Under this, such personnel is in many departments.
The list was made, but the Public Works Department has been at the forefront of the action. The department is constantly taking action on tainted engineers.
Three engineers were demoted in December
In December, the government demoted three engineers, including XEN, for being found guilty of negligence and disturbances in bridge construction on Thano-Raipur road. The three engineers were suspended due to irregularities in the construction of this bridge costing about Rs 8.84 crore. He was ordered to be placed at the top of the seniority list at the demoted post.
